My Objective.
My main career objective is to ensure optimal application of Computational and Applied Mathematics (CAM) in the real world. According to Wits’ statement of overview for CAM is that
“In the 21st century, we find ourselves living in a complex and modern world that requires thoughtful and well-reasoned analytical, mathematical, and computational tools and methods in order to solve the burning problems and answer the critical questions that we are being faced with.”
My real word is the world of learning and teaching. Many critics often state that much has not change in education over the years; it may true. Education in South Africa is a very tough terrain. Intervention strategies for progressed learners coupled with the challenges of ill-discipline which we are not allowed to talk about are the orders of the day.
The Department of Education in the country has made SA-SAMS software available and compulsory to use in schools, however many users still believe that the LTSM issuing and retrieval module in SA-SAMS is painstakingly slow and time consuming. It is similar to using a computer in a supermarket for sales where the cashier registers items by manually typing the item codes using a keyboard into the system instead of using a laser scanner.
Moreover, I come from an era where LTSM issuing and retrieval was done on a 2-quire book or class-list by writing item codes next to the learners’ names. These were often misplaced or the educator would be too lazy to check the codes and at the end of the year.
